Market first
Start at the central market while the city is still practical rather than performative. Coffee, fish hall, produce, people moving.
Two days designed around how the city actually feels: market first, height later, a swim if weather allows, culture before dinner and a waterfront reset in between.

Walk Korzo, then keep going to the waterfront and Molo Longo. Rijeka makes more sense when you see how close civic life and port infrastructure sit.
Climb if you want the transition; take the bus if you want the view without the workout. Stay through late afternoon.
Choose a serious dinner or a market-side tavern; finish with Croatian wine or a listening-bar mood rather than chasing a “nightlife zone.”
Give the Art Quarter or Sugar Palace proper time. This is not a filler museum stop; it explains the city’s industrial confidence.
If weather allows, head east to Sablićevo / Pećine or west toward Kantrida. City swimming is one of Rijeka’s most underrated rituals.
Return to the centre without a checklist. Pastry, coffee, a theatre performance, a current exhibition or a long aperitivo can take the final slot.
This itinerary is intentionally porous. Current exhibitions, weather, events and appetite should be allowed to rewrite it.
